Join Western Downs artist Chris Osborne in the 2026 to learn painting and sketching skills in an old WWII bunker, at Possum Park. This is a great opportunity for self-taught artists to get guidance on materials and creating realistic artworks while enjoying the experience with family and friends.
With a variety of subjects designed to enhance skills and knowledge across different mediums, these workshops are tailored for individuals seeking personal and professional growth. We are continually developing more opportunities to meet the diverse needs of our community. Stay tuned for updates as we finalise additional workshops to offer an even wider range of learning experiences.
Note ! Students under the age of 18 will need suitable adult supervision.

Chris Osborne has been busy over the past 6 years creating 400 paintings and sketches for local exhibitions, competitions and shows. He was approached by Mile Historical Village and Museum to create a series of greeting cards and has also been commissioned to paint several bird and pet portraits.
Since he was selected as one of the 10 Western Downs artists he has been asked to create workshops to coincide with his exhibitions. He has also conducted workshops for school and art groups in the Western Downs, Banana Shire Council Areas.
Now he is teaching workshops at Possum Park in an old WWII underground bunker called “Brushes in Bunkers”
Don’t forget to ask to see Chris Osborne’s Art Gallery after your workshop, before you leave Possum Park.
To build a solid foundation for your artistic journey, begin with black and white. Mastering the essentials of line, tone, and shading is crucial; it allows you to infuse depth into your landscapes and gives your objects a striking volume. That’s why I have developed eight focused workshops on black and white techniques, empowering you to produce sketches and paintings that exude realism.

Once you have confidently mastered black and white, it’s time to dive into color. I have designed two dynamic watercolor workshops that embrace a loose freestyle approach, filled with energy and movement. Additionally, the two gouache workshops focus on intricate details, resulting in strikingly realistic artworks. You will gain essential skills to create depth in your pieces, transforming them from flat and uninspiring to captivating and vibrant.
People are eager for full-day and multi-day workshops on weekends or across several weekends, seeking experiences that extend beyond the limits of a short course. You’ve also expressed a desire for acrylic workshops, allowing for the opportunity to tackle larger projects. So here is a sneak peek into workshops under development at Possum Park.
