Watercolour Marine Life

Join Chris Osborne for an exciting 4-hour watercolour marine life workshop, where you’ll expertly create stunning artworks of fish, turtles, and coral (see examples below). He will skillfully guide you through the process of sketching simple shapes to transform them into complex-looking animals. For those who may find drawing challenging, light tables will be provided to effortlessly trace your fish or turtle outlines. You will master colour mixing with a limited palette and achieve the perfect consistency with watercolour. This is an engaging and easygoing workshop held in a classroom setting with a cozy group of just 6 participants.

The goal is to let loose and enjoy the process of creating a marine life subject—something you might not usually paint, but now is the perfect time to explore.

Workshop Outline

Coral Study

Collected by hand, exquisite samples of coral await you, brought ashore by the tides at Hervey Bay. You will confidently navigate the process of painting these remarkable pieces of real coral, expertly capturing their vibrant colors, unique textures, and the intricate tiny holes that characterize these extraordinary once-living subjects.

Choose Your Subject

This workshop stands out because each student will confidently embark on the journey of painting one of 20 unique fish. You will receive the essential building blocks to bring your fish to life, ensuring that your creation and colour palette will proudly differentiate you from your neighbour. A reference photo will be provided for you to work from during the workshop, or you can choose to download an image to your iPad for closer inspiration.

The workshop is set out over 4 hours with short 15mins break after 2 hour, this should be plenty of time for students to complete a few simple exercises and their main artwork. Also a few demonstrations by the instructor.

Watercolour desktop setup

Students will be shown a good workspace setup and how to avoid mishaps while working on their project.
