Tree & Stump Sketching

A 4hr workshop that will cover sketching with waterproof ink on watercolour paper. You will be taught line and shading techniques to build up tone in a drawing that will be useful for watercolour & ink workshops.

This is an excellent introduction workshop for people that have not sketched with ink pens or on watercolour paper before.

Each student will be supplied with all the materials needed for the class.


Workshop Outline


Skills you have learned

Once you’ve mastered your pens and explored various hatching techniques, you’ll confidently apply these skills to sketch trees and stumps. Additionally, you’ll delve into composition and negative spaces, enabling you to create compelling and captivating artworks.

The course will be follow by example, Osborne will explain each technique while sketching in pencil & ink.

Materials Supplied

This is a list of materials that each student will be supplied with to use on the day. (Please only take home your paper artworks.)

Materials to take home

  • A4 Cartridge Paper (exercises)
  • A4 Watercolour Paper (Main Artworks)

Materials to use then leave for next students at workshop

  • Uni Pin Waterproof Pen 0.05, 0.1, 0.3, 0.7
  • Reference Images in plastic sleeves.

Optional Materials

This is a list of optional materials students may wish to bring along to class.

  • iPad + Charger to display reference images on to paint from in class (Note A4 printout supplied if you don’t own an iPad or tablet)
