I prefer to paint old cars that are being restored as they seem to have more character than a finished product looking all shiny and new.

Anyway I thought I would give digital art a go since I had lots of Telstra points and this enabled me to get an Apple Pencil 2nd

An old pickup with a crane and a fair bit of junk. It’s just knowing what to leave in and what to take out to make an interesting painting.

While I was in Lightning Ridge I managed to drive around some of the old mines and photograph a dozen or so old cars that seemed interesting.

About half a km from the main camp site there was a local dumping area for bits of concrete and metal including about 5 old cars which have been a good source to paint from.

The blitz truck was just outside the Old Laura homestead, Lakefield northern Queensland when I went for my road trip to the Tip of Australia back in 2019.

Once I started adding the Tombo brush pens the rust started looking a little more accurate, but I think I killed a little of the vibrancy.

I had the tools, the online training and the enthusiasm to start something new, so here is my interpretation of Ian Fennelly urban sketching at the Miles Historical Village.
