These otters were photographed while visiting Canada back in 2015 with my sister. I was staying in Victoria, BC, for a few days, and while out walking around the harbour, I spotted a few local otters playing near the shoreline. They had just had a feed of fish and scrambled out of the water for a few minutes, shaking off droplets as they basked in the sunlight. The playful antics of these adorable creatures brought a smile to my face, as they tumbled over one another, occasionally glancing at me with curious eyes. Observing them in their natural habitat felt like a truly special moment, one that I would cherish long after my trip ended.
Ten years later these otters have been captured once again, this time in paint. These and another 60 paintings will form part of my International Creations exhibition in September 2025 at Wondai, QLD.

I must say this one turned out rather well. I love painting rocks and and another favourite subject to paint is tree bark. There is just so much variety of textures in both subjects.
For my Black Label collection I use Winsor & Newton Gouache on Black Colourfix Art Spectrum Paper or Black Mi-Teintes Touch Canson Paper.
My painting come from my own experiences that I have photographed while traveling. By reading this blog, you as a viewer can now hear The Story Behind the Painting. Where, when, what was happening while I was photographing the wildlife.
Enjoy, Chris Osborne
