The Knight bus

The Story Behind the Urban Sketching

When I was visiting my family in the UK, One of my friends was kind enough to drive me down to London to visit Harry Potter World. This was something I wanted to do for ages, ever since part of the Harry Potter set came out to Australia.

If you ever visit London I would recommend doing the studio tour. It was just unreal to be walking among all the props and giant sets. Seeing Hogwarts castle and the Hogwarts Express were definitely my highlights and the fact that you could walk right up to them.

It was bringing fictional books to life and turning the magical world in to the real world something that you could see and touch, also you could drink some butter beer. I was impressed at my age I can only imagine what a child would think of it.

So I was thinking that I wanted to paint something from this Harry Potter experience but I thought that the Hogwarts express would be too difficult and settled for the knight bus instead. And I already had a spare square frame in mind that would fit the buss nicely.

My Sketching and Painting Process

Adding waterproof Ink over the pencil so this will not bleed during the watercolour stage.

Watercolour added loosely just for some basic colour.

Tombo brush pens added for toning and shadows.

Drawing in all the fine details in ink.
