Alto de Perdón

The Story Behind the Watercolour Painting

When I walked the Camino with my mother in 2014 this was the view of the metal sculptures covered in fog. Later when I walked the Camino in 2018 I got a much better view of the distant hills.

The Alto de Perdón (Hill of Forgiveness) is an iconic Camino location, and a tough climb just past Pamplona. A very moving sculpture showing the pilgrims through the ages after a long hike.

My Sketching and Painting Process

Initial Pencil sketch.

Adding waterproof Ink over the pencil so this will not bleed during the watercolour stage.

Watercolour added.

I was producing some greeting cards from this painting so I had to make the sky a little darker.

Final framed artwork gifted to my mother for walking the Camino with me.

Watercolour Paint, Ink & Paper

I use Winsor & Newton Professional Watercolour on Arches France Watercolour Paper, 300g Hot Pressed or Fabriano Artistico Watercolour Paper 300g Hot Pressed..

Enjoy, Chris Osborne

  1. Every time you talk/paint about the Camino de Santiago, it makes me want to watch the movie The Way again. Beautiful painting Chris. A moment captured in time.
