I have created a series of art workshops called “Brushes in Bunkers” ranging from complete beginners to more advanced artists. They will be held in an old 60ft WWII underground bunker which remains cool most of the year round.

I find the best time to view landmarks is on an early morning jog before everyone wakes up. Since I have taken up urban sketching, I really appreciate buildings and bridges.

Another European trip, this time a stopover in Venice to take in some of the architectural delights. The streets and alleyways got me a little confused as I struggled to get to some locations I had my eye on.

After viewing these windmills during the day, we decided to go back and watch the sunset from a different viewpoint. I love traveling the world, as there is so much to experience.

My reference photo was captured from a trip to Mykonos, Greece back in 2012 with my sister. Early one morning, I went for a 10 km jog into town before all the other tourists arrived.

As I was walking back to the hotel after dinner we came across this beautiful little church with a magnificent backdrop of snow capped mountains. I knew this would be a sketch when I got back home.

It’s been a super busy few months with exhibitions, competitions and teaching art classes so sometimes I forget the odd blog. This was one of them, an exhibition a few months back.

I have often driven passed both of these trucks just outside of Chinchilla and since I sketched one I thought I should sketch the other.

I must say that there is a huge selection of fire engines at the Toowoomba Fire Brigade Historical Society Inc and I’ll be sketching them for years to come.

The Story Behind the Urban Sketching I photographed this old fire engine at the Historical Village Herberton apart from that I don’t have anymore details. This was just before I started sketching again after 27 years so I didn’t think to try and find out any more information. My Sketching and Painting Process Initial Pencil sketch. Adding waterproof Ink over the pencil so this will not bleed during the watercolour stage. Watercolour… Read More

I visited the Highfields Pioneer Village and they have a nice subsection called Toowoomba Fire Brigade Historical Society Inc.

It’s been a busy weeks for shows, first the Miles Show and a few days later the Chinchilla Show. So I had to come up with a different selection of artworks for both shows

Entering my first art show last year and been able to show the community my art was such a thrill.

I was asked if I could teach a workshop to run alongside my exhibition at Gallery 107 Dalby, and since this is something I enjoy, of course I said yes.

I completed the Chris Osborne Art Gallery, so let me show you the progress of renovating an old train carriage from the coach drivers room to an art gallery.

The other aspect of painting old trucks and tractors is the blokes that visiting my gallery with their significant others are now more engaging than when I only a collection of animals and landscapes to view.

Now I have discovered watercolour & Ink and the use of exaggerated colour, I have managed to bring a dull photo to life. Not only in colour but also an expression of movement as well.

This tractor caught my attention because of the two wheel configuration at the front, as I had never seen this before. I’m sure It’s probably quite common but I didn’t grow up around farm machinery.

The Story Behind the Urban Sketching When I went to visit my friends at Toowoomba we took a side trip to Highfields Pioneer Village. I was extremely interested in their fire engine museum because I’m thinking of creating a transport or fire related exhibition in the future. I came across this wonderful little slab cottage with so many hanging baskets which once painted looked like hanging pumpkins. Just outside was a very… Read More

I crouched down to include space under the house making the dry grass look more menacing and overgrown.
