While on the second part of our Alaskan tour we did a 7 day cruise and just while we were sitting down to lunch we arrived at Margerie Glacier at Tara Inlet in Glacier Bay National Park.

As I was walking back to the hotel after dinner we came across this beautiful little church with a magnificent backdrop of snow capped mountains. I knew this would be a sketch when I got back home.

Skagway had some amazing buildings, and I could have happily spent hours taking photos and sketching all day.

The air was crisp and once the mist lifted it presented some magnificent views, which no doubt I will paint at some stage.

This ground squirrel just froze when it spotted me. However It kept eating almost in slow motion while giving me the evil eye while trying not to move.

This little cabin was just outside the roadhouse near the Meier’s lake. I just fell in love with the cabin and the surrounding forest.

The bee was photographed on one of the flowers in my garden, hopefully I got the scale right once I sketched them both together

It’s been a super busy few months with exhibitions, competitions and teaching art classes so sometimes I forget the odd blog. This was one of them, an exhibition a few months back.

Just as I was taking my artworks down I could hear someone calling my name, I automatically thought oh bugger what have I done.

This is the third painting I’ve been commissioned to do for this couple because they have 3 children and want to leave them each a painting.

I could hear some crunching so I knew it was the possum that had found the bird seed again.

I have often driven passed both of these trucks just outside of Chinchilla and since I sketched one I thought I should sketch the other.

While out photographing birds around Possum Park I came across a few kookaburras and they always have lots of character.

The owners know if I’m flying around on my bike one handed while trying to keep my camera secure, there is always a bird involved some place.

I must say that there is a huge selection of fire engines at the Toowoomba Fire Brigade Historical Society Inc and I’ll be sketching them for years to come.

The Story Behind the Urban Sketching I photographed this old fire engine at the Historical Village Herberton apart from that I don’t have anymore details. This was just before I started sketching again after 27 years so I didn’t think to try and find out any more information. My Sketching and Painting Process Initial Pencil sketch. Adding waterproof Ink over the pencil so this will not bleed during the watercolour stage. Watercolour… Read More

I visited the Highfields Pioneer Village and they have a nice subsection called Toowoomba Fire Brigade Historical Society Inc.

I must say this is one of my favourite bird finds at Possum Park and was such a delight to watch.

I went birding a few months ago saw a flash of orange and blue and immediately got excited because of a potential new bird at Possum Park.

This little superb fairywren was hopping between the old World War II 17 strand barbwire fence that runs around the property at Possum Park.
