A few years ago I went down to South West Rocks for a friend’s wedding. I decided to make a bit of a trip out of it and stayed for a few days on either side of the wedding. One of my favourite things to do while visiting a new area is bird photography, especially when on the coast as this presents a good opportunity to discover new birds.
I rather like the blue paper as a background, so I might create a new blue label collection of artworks to complement my normal black label collection.

Stage 4.
Closeup using my finest of brushes. For the first time I have used a metallic Daniel Smith paint on the birds wings and it looks absolutely stunning when it catches the light.

Stage 5.

Finished Artwork.
I considered adding a fish to the water but hesitated due to the risk of making a mistake with permanent paint on paper. I also prefer the uncertainty surrounding what the heron is observing.

Framed Artwork.

Daniel Smith Luminescent watercolours, Duochrome Tropical Sunrise on top of the birds wings.
For my Black Label collection I use Winsor & Newton Gouache on Black Colourfix Art Spectrum Paper or Black Mi-Teintes Touch Canson Paper.
My paintings are based on my travel experiences. Through this blog, you can discover The Story Behind the Painting, including where and when I captured these wildlife moments, old rustic cars from historical villages, and beautiful seascapes from faraway places.
Enjoy, Chris Osborne
