Six is the Charm

The Story Behind the Painting

After I had finished painting in my studio / gallery one afternoon, I decided to cycle down to the disused train line behind Possum Park. On the way down the hill, I came across a group of finches, apparently called a charm. So I stopped and took a few photos, as they are a wonderful bird to observe and have a fantastic call that sounds like ZZZZZzzz.

I have only found two varieties of finches at Possum Park. Double-barred and Plum-headed Finch which will become a future painting.

My Painting Process

Stage 1.

I got stuck right into this one before I realised I hadn’t taken any photos. I completely finished the tree branches and undercoated all the double bar finches.

Gouache on Canson Paper

For my Black Label collection I use Winsor & Newton Gouache on Black Colourfix Art Spectrum Paper or Black Mi-Teintes Touch Canson Paper.

My paintings are based on my travel experiences. Through this blog, you can discover The Story Behind the Painting, including where and when I captured these wildlife moments, old rustic cars from historical villages, and beautiful seascapes from faraway places.

Enjoy, Chris Osborne
