Just north of Possum Park my home for the past 3.5 years are a few old farm houses in a paddock. I’ve been meaning to stop and take photos for ages, but there is always a road train right on my bumper so I’ve not been able to stop until now. I walked around the property trying to get a shot of both buildings showing how much they have deteriorated over the years.
I entered this artwork into the Miles show and got a second place. Just as I was taking my artworks down I could hear someone calling my name, I automatically thought oh bugger what have I done. Turns out the property owners the Walshes wanted to talk to me and ask about the sketch. They said “I think this is our property just north or Possum Park”. Yes this was correct and they still own the land, the buildings used to belong to their family and apparently there was also a third building on the property but only two remain standing today.
So they happily chatted to me about the sketch and purchased the artwork, so I’m glad my artwork of the buildings is staying in the family.

Because this is waterproof ink I was unable to lift any of the ink with a wet brush. so I remember a technique using a scalpel to scrape the ink off and lift a bit of paper creating some highlights. This actually worked rather well and must remember it for future sketches.

My painting come from my own experiences that I have photographed while traveling. By reading this blog, you as a viewer can now hear The Story Behind the Painting. Where, when, what was happening while I was photographing the wildlife.
