Aerial Pursuit

The Story Behind the Painting

While out photographing birds around Possum Park I came across a few kookaburras and they always have lots of character. This time I managed to get some good action shots, but I’ve just noticed what an amazing tree branch the kookaburra just flew from. This branch definitely has to go into a painting at some stage in the future.

My Painting Process

First background.

I just wasn’t happy with this background it looked a little dull and with the temperature in the cottage well above 35 deg the paint was drying too fast. I tried adding some retarder and thinning medium but didn’t help in those temperatures or it could be just the amount of paint I’m using. Going from gouache to acrylic I never mix enough paint.

New background.

My painting come from my own experiences that I have photographed while traveling. By reading this blog, you as a viewer can now hear The Story Behind the Painting. Where, when, what was happening while I was photographing the wildlife.
