Superb Fairywren

The Story Behind the Painting

This little superb fairywren was hopping between the old World War II 17 strand barbwire fence that runs around the property at Possum Park. They are so hard to photograph because they just don’t stay still and they light blue seems to reflect the sun and most of the time turns out a white colour.

My Painting Process

Background and Initial sketch.

I thought I would try out painting with a palette knife to get some layering effect on the feathers.

My new desktop setup for acrylic paint, this was because I was house sitting and I thought the two dogs might knock over my normal easel.

Stage 2.

Finished Artwork.

Lots of detail in the barbed wire which also had to wrap around the edge of the canvas.

My painting come from my own experiences that I have photographed while traveling. By reading this blog, you as a viewer can now hear The Story Behind the Painting. Where, when, what was happening while I was photographing the wildlife.

Enjoy, Chris Osborne
