Entering my first art show last year and been able to show the community my art was such a thrill. Coming away with five first places was unbelievable and certainly gave me a boost in confidence, so I thought I would put my art before the judges once again.

As I entered the art section, I could see a red piece of card hanging from the bottom of my black and white drawing of two farm houses. It was a second place “Black and White Drawing”, I was over the moon.
After the show I could hear someone asking who Chris Osborne was and I slowly raised my hand. It turns out that the Walshes still own the land and buildings were at the show. We had a wonderful chat and it was good to meet some more locals that new the history of these two houses.

Next I came across my two blue winged kookaburra’s. This was a commission that I had only finished a few weeks ago and I’d asked the owners if it was possible to enter it into the Miles show.
I was so excited that the owners of this painting know that it also has a few wins in the local show to make it that little bit extra special.

This year I thought I would also enter more that just gouache artworks so here’s a watercolour and ink painting.
This also won first place in Theme “True Blue”.

My entry into the Flower section had more than a blue ribbon, there was an extra bit of paper stuck to it. Best art & also first place “Flower Study”
It’s hard not to control your excitement at this stage, it’s such a buzz wining something. I must say I never really won anything at school in all my years.
I would get a gold star only because the teachers didn’t want me to feel left out when everyone else had twenty plus stars on there charts.

First place “Land or Seascape” for my acrylic painting of the Sign at Stockton Beach, Newcastle. This is a new medium that I have just started dabbling in. This was an experiment to cover up an old faded frangipani painting that was hanging in my cottage at possum park.

I really like this painting of the old station masters house at Drillham and I was chuffed to also receive a first place category “Any other work of Art”.
I heard my name been called out again as I was packing this artwork up after the show. Turns out that Dug and Barb also had a connection to this house in Drillham and told me a few stories about climbing out of the window to see a girlfriend and been caught by the dad. I love meeting locals and finding out the history of old houses.
I received five first places and a second place this year at the 2024 Miles show. I can’t believe all my hard work as an artist has been recognised and can’t wait for the results of tomorrow’s 2024 Chinchilla art show.

I would like to thank the staff, judges, stewards and anyone else involved at the Miles & District Show Society. Also for the prizes I won from Foodworks, Mary Howard and Shirley Makin.
I’m grateful for winning the Marie Makin Memorial Trophy for the 2nd year in a row.
