Well I’ve always dreamed of owning my own little art gallery and this dream has finally come true. I’m the resident artist / gardener / shopkeeper / handyman at Possum Park, Kowguran (20km north of Miles).
I finally convinced the owners of Possum Park to let me convert an old train carriage into my very own little art gallery. For the past three years I have been selling my artworks to tourists that stay at Possum Park Caravan & Camping park from the foyer of my cottage. Unfortunately this was always a little cramped and could only hold two or three people at a time, so I had a new idea of relocating to the other end of Possum Park.
It was so hot the week I started working on the gallery most days were 35 – 40 degrees and even hotter inside a metal train carriage as it was sitting in direct sun. I completed the Chris Osborne Art Gallery in a few weeks, so let me show you the progress of renovating an old train carriage from the coach drivers room to an art gallery.

In the 90’s Possum Park used to have coach tours where you could stay overnight in underground war bunkers, train carriages or cabins. The coach driver would stay in this converted carriage.

Time to remove all the old furniture and bedding and turn it into a functional art gallery and studio.

I removed all the floor tiles and then gave the walls a few coats of paint.

First time laying a floating floor and I was very happy with the results, so much better than the carpet tiles.

The quad added to the floor and hanging system installed ready for all of my painting.

My friend from the local art group created skirts for my tables so I could display my postcards and greeting cards.
My desk was relocated from the cottage to my gallery, this gave me a nice workspace to create more artwork in a much brighter environment.

Once I started filling the walls with my artwork it started to look more like a gallery, albeit a very small one.
I was stoked when all my bookshelves and cardholders arrived just in time for my grand opening.

Small artworks displayed on my Fantastic furniture bookshelves.

One of my favourite display items in my gallery is my card holders from White Corner Product on the Gold Coast.

Everything finished, hung, installed and unpacked.

The entrance to my gallery, hopefully some rail will bring the grass back to life.

One year later and my little gallery has been a success. People love chatting to me and watching me create art at my desk.
I’ve been very busy creating art for my upcoming exhibition at Wondai and my gallery. This year I have concentrated more on black ink work and larger acrylics.

One of my largest acrylic artworks to date that took two months to complete.

Closeup of mama bear, still showing lots of fine detail.
My painting come from my own experiences that I have photographed while traveling. By reading this blog, you as a viewer can now hear The Story Behind the Painting. Where, when, what was happening while I was photographing the wildlife.
Enjoy, Chris Osborne
