For my latest exhibition I decided to paint ten mini artwork to display alongside my larger artworks. This year I also included watercolour & ink paintings and some black ink sketches.
Normally my smaller artworks don’t feature in my blogs because I only photograph the finish artwork and not a series of stages like my larger artworks. These mini artworks can still take a few hours to complete because of all the fine details.
So far four of my mini artworks have found new homes so this was a worth while exercise going smaller. They are ideal gifts or to display on your desk at home or work and I have since painted a few more for my own gallery at Possum Park, Chris Osborne Art Gallery, but that’s another blog I need to catch up on.
Most of the birds I have photographed are from the past six months, then I use these photos to painted from in gouache, which is like opaque watercolour.

I hope you enjoy the mini artworks, as they are so much fun to paint when you don’t have a great deal of time on your hands.
I use Winsor & Newton Gouache on Arches France Watercolour Paper, 300g Cold Pressed.
My painting come from my own experiences that I have photographed while traveling. By reading this blog, you as a viewer can now hear The Story Behind the Painting. Where, when, what was happening while I was photographing the wildlife.
Enjoy, Chris Osborne
