The Story Behind the Urban Sketching

Back in Jan 2021 I had just been visiting my sister in Sydney and then all the covid restrictions came in and I was caught in a hot zone. So I drove out to Lightning Ridge and did my two weeks quarantine there so I could re enter Queensland and my new home at Possum Park.

While I was in Lightning Ridge I managed to drive around some of the old mines and photograph a dozen or so old cars that seemed interesting. At this stage I was still painting animals and a few landscapes and hadn’t gotten into urban sketching yet.

So fast forward two years and now I can’t stop sketching rusted out old cars, trucks and tractors and the occasional building and boat.
