When I went down to visit my mother we were driving past the boat yard and I yelled out “oooh stop”, which I have learned is better than just yelling out stop when someone else is driving. Anyway I ran over to the fence and took a photo on my phone of this delightful little tug boat at Hervey Bay. I thought this would make a stunning sketch in my new style I’m trying out and I just love all the junk lying around it.

Initial Pencil sketch.
This is also the stage where you decide what to omit and what to keep. I omitted the stairs and the background buildings.

Adding waterproof Ink over the pencil so this will not bleed during the watercolour stage.
Pencil marks erased.

Watercolour added loosely just for some basic colour.
I actually went a little wild and added a sky which I haven’t normally done with my sketches. This was lots of fun splashing the watercolour over the paper and a fair bit of my iPad too.

Tombo brush pens added for toning and shadows.

Drawing in all the fine details in ink and a few extra bits of yellow watercolour.

Final framed artwork and hanging proudly in my gallery.
I use Winsor & Newton Professional Watercolour on Arches France Watercolour Paper, 300g Hot Pressed or Fabriano Artistico Watercolour Paper 300g Hot Pressed..
Tombo Brush Pens N15, N45, N55, N60, N65, N95 and Faber Castell Fine-liners 0.05, 0.1, 0.3, 0.5, 0.7
My painting come from my own experiences that I have photographed while traveling. By reading this blog, you as a viewer can now hear The Story Behind the Painting. Where, when, what was happening while I was photographing the wildlife.
