Springflower Flamborough Head

The Story Behind the Urban Sketching

Whenever I goto the UK my friends are really good and often take me out on day trips. Ashley took me out to Robinhoods Bay and Flamborough Head. I took a few photos of the fishing boats, headlands and Lighthouse.

I always like painting from my trips overseas especially when they are from my childhood. English scenes create are a big contrast to my Australian paintings and it’s nice to see both hanging on my walls around the cottage.

My Sketching and Painting Process

Initial Pencil sketch.

Adding waterproof Ink over the pencil so this will not bleed during the watercolour stage.

Watercolour added loosely just for some basic colour.

Tombo brush pens added for toning and shadows.

Drawing in all the fine details in ink.

The artwork was looking a little washed out so I added more watercolour.

Watercolour Paint, Ink & Paper

I use Winsor & Newton Professional Watercolour on Arches France Watercolour Paper, 300g Hot Pressed or Fabriano Artistico Watercolour Paper 300g Hot Pressed..
